Profile
Graduated from Tokyo National University of Fine Arts and Music, and completed the master's course at the same university.
Received the Ataka Prize in 1987. He received the Fukushima Prize in 1988. He has performed with the Yomiuri Nippon Symphony Orchestra under Kenichiro Kobayashi, the Kanagawa Philharmonic Orchestra under Hans-Martin Schneidt, a leading German conductor, and the Tokyo Mozart Players under Tatsunori Numajiri.
From 1990 to 2004, he was a part-time lecturer at the Tokyo National University of Fine Arts and Music's Department of Orchestral Music. From 2001 to 2008, he was Principal of the Kanagawa Philharmonic Orchestra. In 2009, he transferred to the Tokyo Philharmonic Orchestra, where he has been Principal since then.
He is a lecturer at Toho Gakuen Junior College of Arts and Senzoku Gakuen College of Music. He is also active in performances that transcend genres, such as film music (his recording of “Okuribito” is still fresh in the memory), commercials, and dramas.
His own project “Cultural Anthropology Lecture” has been well received.
From 2019, he became the Seasonal Program Producer of Nagano City Art Museum.
