In 2005, she graduated at the top of her class from Tokyo College of Music High School. In the same year, she began studying at the Liszt Academy of Music in Hungary under Georges Nardole, a world-renowned scholar of Bartók and Liszt.

 

In 2008, she relocated to the United States to begin her performance career. The same year, she participated as a scholarship student in a symposium at Princeton University in New Jersey, where she studied the Turbman technique with Edna Golansky. 2009, she gave a recital at Steinway Hall in New York City to a full house.

 

For her third album, “Resonance: A Horowitz Tribute,” she recorded on the Steinway CD75, a Steinway instrument said to have been Horowitz's favorite instrument. The recording was selected as a special selection by Record Geijutsu magazine.

 

In 2014, she released the DVD “AYA NAGATOMI IN CONCERT,” which includes “La Campanella,” which has received over 2 million views on YouTube (now over 3.9 million).

 

In 2016, she released “Aya Nagatomi plays Beethoven,” the first collection of all Beethoven's works in her career (Record Geijutsu magazine, specially selected edition). In 2019, she also released“Aya Nagatomi plays Chopin,” from Takagi Klavier(Record Geijyutsu magazine, specially selected edition).

 

She has performed with the Shanghai Quartet, the Welsh String Quartet, Erika Colon, and others. She has performed concertos with the Kanagawa Philharmonic Orchestra, Hyogo Performing Arts Center Orchestra, and Osaka Symphony Orchestra, all to great acclaim.

 

In recent years, she has been giving lecture-style concerts on the life of composers, and also works as a radio personality, in order to bring classical music to a wider audience in parallel with her performance activities.
